Wine Tasting Weekends
Intro to Wine Part 1 This class will provide a a good introduction to wine including discussion about the major wine regions of the world, the major grapes from which the most popular wines are produced, factors which affect the taste of wine, how wine is made, understanding wine labels, and the fundamentals of wine tasting. Additionally we will apply our new wine knowledge by tasting, discussing and evaluating several wines! Intro to Wine Part 2 This class will cover several lesser known grape varieties and their regions of production. We’ll also cover the fascinating subjects of Champagne/sparkling wines, sweet wines and rose wines and talk a bit about the impact on quality wines resulting from vineyard and winemaking practices. Also we will briefly discuss wine laws/regulations and how they can affect wine quality and price. Additionally we will taste, discuss and evaluate several of the wines covered during this class! The Wines of Italy Italy's wines are the most diverse of all the wine producing countries-there's a wine for everyone and for every occasion and many are reasonably priced! Grapevines grow everywhere and we'll discuss some world famous wines, some popular wines, and some little-known gems. We’ll discuss the Italian wine culture and how this has a profound effect on the wines. I'll also share some of my experiences and photos of visits to Italian vineyards and wineries. Additionally we'll be tasting and evaluating several Italian wines! The Wines of France Many wine lovers feel that the classical wines of France are the baseline standard for fine wine. We’ll cover the wine regions of Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Loire Valley and the Rhone Valley and discuss what makes these regions and their wines unique. We’ll also discuss French wine laws and how this applies to and affects the quality and taste of the wines. The most fun will be to taste, discuss and evaluate wines from each of the regions! He has completed certifications from WSET (Advanced level) and eRobertParker.com (Level 2) and has traveled extensively to wine regions in the US, France, and Italy. He is also a member of the American Wine Society (Northampton and Lehigh chapters) and teaches wine appreciation classes at Northampton Community College.
